Grade 6's Weaving Experience

Over the month of April, Mrs. Cooper, a volunteer from the Ottawa Valley Weavers’ Guild, taught Ms. MacKeen’s grade 6 students how to create hand-woven accessories/wall decorations for their homes using tabletop looms. The students spent every Monday for a month creating beautiful fabric art using different colours and textures of yarn. They learned the importance of focus, determination, patience, and care.
As part of the weaving experience students also worked on slideshows that included:
- Looking at the history and diversity of weaving throughout the world and time.
- Writing procedures on how to weave.
- Researching and gaining knowledge on different fabric techniques from different countries.
In conclusion, throughout the month of April we had an exciting, memorable weaving experience that sparked our creativity and helped us reach our true potential.
