Gatineau Park Field Trip - Grade 4/5/6

On May 22, the Grade 4, 5, and 6 classes took a bus into Gatineau Park to spend the day exploring the trails, streams, waterfalls, and forests of Gatineau Park.  This is the second annual Gatineau Park trip for York Street Juniors.  Every year is different due to the spring temperatures and type of winter we had.

The buses left us at Mackenzie King Estate where we explored the ruins near the trailhead.  From there, we hiked down the Waterfall Trail, exploring the rushing streams (the water was cold and delicious thanks to a high-tech water filter that we used), finally arriving at the waterfall for photos, identifying insects and plants (so many trilliums blooming!).  We carefully climbed down to a lower lookout point before starting off on the next trail.

The Lauriault Trail led us on a  slow and steady climb up to an incredible lookout point where we stopped for another snack before continuing down the other side of the hill to Mulvahill Lake.  Although we didn't spot any tadpoles, frogs or turtles this year (we think it was too cold) we had lots of fun exploring the shoreline before heading back to Mackenzie King Estate to be picked up by the bus.
