Mr Wolf's Pancakes - A Musical Production

Children perform musical Mr. Wolf's Pancakes on stage in costume
York Street Grade Ones in their performance of Mr. Wolf's Pancakes

On Friday 9 May, Grade One put on a musical production of Mr Wolf’s Pancakes, a story adapted from the book by Jan Fearnley where Mr Wolf goes around Yorkville village asking his neighbours to help him make pancakes. He needs help from Chicken Liken, the Gingerbread Man, the Three Little Pigs, the Speckled Frogs, Little Bo Peep, Old Mother Hubbard and the Cat, the Moon, the Dish and the Spoon. However, the problem is he cannot read his recipe book, he cannot count his money, he cannot write his shopping list, yet none of them will help him. So, he makes the huge pile of delicious pancakes all by himself but when his neighbours call on him to share his meal, he gobbles them all up! This cheeky cautionary tale brought many smiles and laughter to the packed audience, who enjoyed reminiscing the traditional tales, joined in some familiar nursery rhymes and heard 11 new songs. The audience included Dr. Pino Buffone, the Ottawa Carleton District School Board Director of Education who said the performance was ‘delightful and very professional’. The production gave the children multiple opportunities to make cross curricular connections in language, music, dance, art and drama. I’m sure the students will remember this cautionary tale about helping your neighbours for many years to come. Many thanks to the whole community for supporting this inclusive Arts experience.
